23+ years providing full time massage therapy and 8 years of previous medical experience as a Certified Nursing Assistant and Patient Care Technician in rehabilitation and acute care. Primarily Oncology and Medical/Surgical, 1993-2001.
Experience
I have practiced massage therapy full time since 2000. My main focus is on functional outcome and scientific evidence based massage. This type of massage is often referred to as Medical Massage, Clinical Massage or Orthopedic Massage. I use traditional European and Contemporary Western massage techniques, such as Swedish Massage, Deep Tissue techniques such as Neuromuscular Therapy (Trigger Point Therapy) and Myofascial techniques, Sports Massage and Stretching which focus on conventional western concepts of anatomy and physiology, and soft tissue manipulation.
I am also a NASM Corrective Exercise Specialist. This allows me to not only address muscular complaints, by decreasing tension of overactive tight muscles and lengthen shortened muscles using massage therapy techniques, but also provide comprehensive assessment of posture, muscle imbalances and movement dysfunction, as well as design and implement a corrective exercise strategy to restore normal movement function.
I have extensive experience working with clients who suffer from chronic pain conditions due to stress and tension, medical conditions such as fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue syndrome, multiple sclerosis, cancer, pregnancy and muscular Injuries. No client/patient or injury is alike and there is no single technique that can cure all pain or injuries. Each treatment session is individualized and the technique used will vary depending on what is felt and observed.
Through continuing education courses, research and experience I continue to expand upon my expertise and knowledge.
