Your initial appointment will include a thorough interview, assessment , treatment, and if indicated treatment planning. The interview will consist of a review of your general health history and the complaint you are seeking massage for. The assessment may consist of condition specific range of motion testing, postural assessment and muscular palpation to determine levels of tension and restrictions within the muscles. Treatment planning will establish a specific desired outcome for short term and long term, massage techniques to be used and treatment frequency and duration. The therapist will select the most beneficial techniques for the complaint, including but not limited to Deep Tissue. Usually a combination of techniques will be applied, as no one technique can address all muscular issues.
Clinical massage is not just about addressing a symptom, but also about discovering the root of the problem. Pain in one area may actually be referred pain from another area. Applying massage to only the area feeling the pain will not resolve the problem.
Choosing a session length
A minor problem, such as waking up with a kink in you neck, can often be resolved with a 30 or 60 min appointment. More complex issues, such as a pulled muscle, chronic pain and tension issues, or older injuries may require multiple treatments.
Depending on the initial appointment findings, we may need to refer you to your primary medical provider for further evaluation or for a consent for treatment before we can continue with any further massage treatments. We reserve the right to refuse treatment of anyone we deem massage would be unsafe for or that is outside of our scope of practice.
